Children’s Vision Care & Myopia Control

Helping Your Child See Clearly from the Start

Good vision plays a big role in how children learn, play, and grow. Regular eye examinations help ensure your child’s eyes are developing as they should and allow us to spot any concerns early—often before your child even realises there’s a problem.

What We Check

Our optometrists take the time to carefully assess your child’s vision in a relaxed, child-friendly environment. We look at:

  • How clearly your child can see and focus

  • How well their eyes work together

  • Overall eye health and development

  • Vision skills related to learning and development

  • Early signs of lazy eye (amblyopia), where one eye is weaker than the other

  • Eye coordination or binocular vision issues

Lazy Eye (Amblyopia) Care

Lazy eye is most successfully treated when it’s detected early. If we identify amblyopia, we’ll explain the results clearly and create a personalised treatment plan that suits your child’s age and visual needs. This may include:

  • Glasses to correct differences in prescription between the eyes

  • Patching or eye drops to encourage the weaker eye to work harder

  • Regular follow-up visits to monitor progress and adjust treatment

With early treatment, many children go on to develop strong, well-balanced vision.

Myopia (Short-Sightedness) Care & Treatment

If your child is short-sighted or their myopia is progressing, we offer evidence-based myopia control treatments designed to help slow its progression. After assessing your child’s vision and eye growth, we’ll recommend the most suitable option.

Myopia care may include:

  • Specialised myopia control glasses that help slow eye growth while providing clear vision

  • Myopia control contact lenses, including daily soft lenses

  • Lifestyle guidance, such as encouraging outdoor time and healthy screen and near-work habits

  • Regular monitoring, including axial length measurements (the length of the eye), to accurately track progression and adjust treatment when needed

Managing myopia early can help reduce the risk of future eye health problems and support long-term visual comfort.

Why Early Eye Checks Matter

Children don’t always know—or tell you—when they’re struggling to see. Regular eye examinations help detect vision problems such as lazy eye or short-sightedness before they start affecting schoolwork, confidence, or everyday activities.
