Dilated Fundus Examination & Digital Retinal Photography

This examination provides a detailed look at the back of the eye, including the retina, optic nerve, and blood vessels. Pupils are temporarily dilated to allow a thorough assessment and capture high-quality digital images for ongoing monitoring of your eye health.

What to expect

A few drops are used to gently widen your pupils. Once dilated, our optometrist examines the retina and optic nerve and may take digital photographs to document your eye health. The process is quick, safe, and comfortable. Your vision may remain blurred for a few hours afterwards, so it’s best to arrange for a companion to drive you home after the test.

Why it matters

A dilated fundus examination can detect retinal disease, optic nerve changes, and early signs of systemic conditions such as diabetes or high blood pressure. Regular monitoring allows for early intervention, helping to preserve your vision for the long term.

Taking care of your eyes

Including this examination in your routine eye care gives a detailed record of your eye health. Appointments are designed to be convenient and personalised, supporting early detection and ongoing protection of your vision.
