Ocular Emergency including Foreign Body removal
Ocular emergencies require prompt attention to protect your vision. Our practice provides urgent assessment and treatment for acute eye conditions, including foreign bodies, injuries, and sudden vision changes.
Conditions treated
We provide immediate care for:
Foreign bodies in the eye (metal, dust, debris, etc.)
Eye injuries or trauma
Chemical exposures
Sudden changes or loss of vision
Severe eye pain
Treatment approach
When a foreign body is present, the eye is first numbed with safe, topical anaesthetic drops to ensure comfort. The optometrist then carefully removes the object using specialised, sterile instruments. Depending on the situation, treatment may also include prescription eye drops or ointments to reduce inflammation, prevent infection, and support healing. Follow-up care ensures the eye is recovering safely.
What to do
If you experience sudden pain, vision changes, or a foreign body in your eye, urgent assessment is recommended. Same-day appointments are prioritised whenever possible.
